Paul is Derby born and bred.  He attended local schools, then read Law at the University of Manchester between 1987 and 1990.  He attended the Inns of Court School of Law, and commenced his pupillage in September 1991.  He completed his pupillage in 1992, and has practised on the Midland Circuit since that time.  He is a Founding Member of Derwent Chambers.

Paul has some 25 years’ experience of Public and Private Law Children Act work, plus Adoption, regularly acting for parents, children and local authorities.

He has considerable knowledge and experience of the Coroner’s Court having presided at a number of highly complex inquests, including deaths in custody; numerous complex hospital deaths and other difficult investigations.  He is happy to draw upon this experience when acting for a wide range of properly interested persons at inquests.

Paul also has a widely acknowledged expertise in the areas of Disclosure and Public Interest Immunity, regularly acting for local authorities and other public bodies.

He is renowned as an approachable, but professional practitioner and one who relishes a challenge.  He has much empathy and a particular skill with challenged and challenging lay clients of all backgrounds.
